BOWES PARK NATIONAL RAIL STATION,
FRIDAY 8th JULY 2005

Moments in time on a day when every commute was an act of defiance. This was the scene on the morning of 8th July 2005 at Bowes Park NR station, a short walk from Bounds Green station, closed - like most of the rest of the eastern section of the Piccadilly line - due to the terrorist attacks the day before. Replacement bus services were in place to take commuters west to the Northern line or east to the Victoria, but many took the local alternative of the WAGN service into Old Street & Moorgate (which until 1975 was run by the London Underground as the Northern City Line). On a scrappy patch of ground at the northern end of the island platform, a clump of vivid red poppies had taken root.
